Taxsy is a receipt-scanning and expense-tracking app for UK tax records. It is designed so that your data stays under your control: on your device and in your own iCloud account. Taxsy has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking.
Your receipts consist of the images plus the merchant, amount, date, category and line items. They are stored on your iPhone or iPad and synced across your devices using your own iCloud account: the records via Apple's CloudKit (in your private iCloud database) and the images via your iCloud Drive. This data is accessible only through your Apple account; Taxsy's developer cannot read it and operates no servers that store your records. Apple processes iCloud data under its own privacy policy. If iCloud is unavailable or signed out, Taxsy stores everything locally on the device instead.
Text recognition (OCR) of a scanned receipt happens entirely on your device using Apple's Vision framework. To organise a scan into structured data (merchant, amount, date, category, items), only the recognised text is sent over an encrypted connection to Taxsy's processing service (hosted on Cloudflare), which forwards it to Google's Gemini API for parsing. The photo itself is never sent. Taxsy does not store this text; it is processed transiently to answer your request. Google processes it under the Gemini API terms; on the paid API tier, Google states prompts are not used to train its models.
If you enter your own Gemini API key in Settings, scans are sent directly from your device to Google using your key instead. Your key is stored only on your device.
For foreign-currency receipts, Taxsy downloads HMRC's published monthly exchange-rate tables from the UK government's public service (trade-tariff.service.gov.uk). These requests contain only the month and year. They carry no personal data and no receipt details.
Taxsy asks for camera access to scan receipts and photo-library access to import existing receipt photos. Images are processed on your device and saved into the app's storage (local, or your iCloud Drive when iCloud is on). They are never sent to Taxsy or any third party.
CSV and ZIP exports are created on your device and shared only where you choose to send them (e.g. email, AirDrop, Files). What happens to an export after you share it is under your control.
Delete individual receipts inside the app, and the deletion syncs to your other devices. Deleting the app removes its local data; data in your iCloud (synced records and images) can be managed from iOS Settings → Apple Account → iCloud. Taxsy itself keeps no server-side data.
Taxsy is a business record-keeping tool intended for adults and is not directed at children.
Under UK GDPR you have rights over your personal data, including access, correction and erasure. Since your data lives on your device and is not held by Taxsy, you can exercise these directly in the app. For any privacy question or concern, contact the developer at email.
If Taxsy's data practices change, this page will be updated and the "last updated" date revised.
